Christmas and the Geek (originally titled Christmas at Castleview Cove) by VH Nicholson offers a delightful escape into the holiday season, blending the joy of Christmas with a spicy and romantic narrative. I had an unexpectedly rough end to the year and this was just the thing to take my mind off my troubles. In the realm of short Christmas stories, this novella stands out for its ability to pack a punch of emotions and festive cheer within its concise pages. The four star rating (as opposed to five stars) is largely down to the feeling it could have been so much MORE. 

Literally – I wanted this fleshed out into a full novel!

Holly and Gabe take centre stage in a heart-warming Christmas love story. From the outset, their characters are crafted to be relatable and endearing, providing readers with a perfect dose of joy, love, and laughter. Despite my complaints, the brevity of the novella doesn’t compromise the depth of their connection, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a quick and satisfying Christmas read. I was just put out when it was over as I had to find something else to read (fortunately, I had an ARC of one of the author’s other novels to pick up!).

Gabe, the male lead, adds a layer of intrigue with his hot, swoony, and dirty-talking persona. The spicy elements woven into the narrative contribute to the novella’s allure, creating a romantic atmosphere that is both captivating and steamy. Despite the limited page count, the plot unfolds seamlessly, giving readers a well-rounded experience that doesn’t sacrifice substance.

The chemistry between Holly and Gabe is palpable, delivering a swoon-worthy experience that resonates with the spirit of the holiday season. The novella’s short, sweet, and sexy nature captures the essence of a perfect Christmas love story, with moments that are both heart-felt and, at times, hot.

The festive ambiance is further accentuated by the storyline and actually shook me from my grinch-like mood somewhat! The novella successfully immerses readers in the holiday spirit, making it a delightful choice for those looking to embrace the festive season through the lens of a charming romance.

With well-developed characters, a spicy twist, and a celebration of the holiday spirit, this novella offers a satisfying read for anyone seeking a short and enjoyable Christmas romance. This wasn’t my first foray into the novels of VH Nicolson (that was Hunting Eden and the rest of the Triple Trouble Trilogy, namely Inevitable Ella and Unexpected Eva). It was, however, one of my favourites so far and definitely worth a read.

The British setting adds a great flavour to an already favourite genre (not that I’ve anything against those set elsewhere, it’s just nice to find ones from home!. It’s particularly enjoyable if you’re a fan of Scottish romance novels, and if you’re not, you soon will be after encountering this author! She is certainly one unputdownable romance author who isn’t as well known as her books merit.
