Hey book lovers!

Big news today—I’m beyond thrilled to announce the release of my novella (and first published work!), Eve Was Framed! And guess what? Because I’m so deliriously excited to finally be able to call myself an author officially, it’s available for FREE as an eBook and via Kindle Unlimited. And for those who love the feel of paper between their fingers, a paperback version is also available.

But what on earth is it all about, you may be wondering? Well, funnily enough I never actually intended to write this one. It’s kind of a bonus book (hence me happily giving it away!). The book I was actually writing (and in fact finished earlier this year) is called Bane, and features the same main character as Eve Was Framed, Amelia Thornbridge. As I wrote Bane, I realised Amelia’s origin story was actually pretty fiery. And while it didn’t fit in the novel, being entirely self-contained and separate, I thought it would make a great little novella.

A prequel if you will.

Bane is quite definitely a romance novel, and a mystery romance at that. But Eve Was Framed is more of a Woman’s Tale. While there are elements of romance in it (and a healthy dose of spice!) It’s largely the story of Amelia finding herself after being lost for several years. Of realising that one does not actually have to settle for the life everyone expects you to live.

So, What’s It All About?

Amelia abruptly finds herself trapped in a life that feels too small, too stifling, too different from what she always imagined becoming. Tied down by a job that suffocates and a relationship that’s going nowhere, she suddenly finds herself yearning for things both personally and professionally that everyone (herself included) seems to have decided she doesn’t need or shouldn’t want.

It’s a story about breaking free, finding your strength, and possibly, just possibly, starting anew.

What if you decided to stop being what everyone expects and start being yourself? What if the very thing you’re scared of doing is the gateway to something extraordinary? This story is close to my heart, as it was a way for me to explore the predicament many women (and indeed, men) find themselves in when they reach a certain point in life. They’ve worked hard, they’ve done everything right, but they’re not happy. What they were told they should want is unfulfilling. And when they strive for more, it seems everyone is hell bent on telling them it’s unrealistic.

My career began working for businesses and agencies as a copywriter. The big offices, the shining buildings, the endless cubicle swamps, and the even more unending expectations placed upon you. To work harder and longer for less. To get everything done even though what’s given isn’t actually your job. So many writers and other office workers find themselves in this position; hired for one role and slowly, insidiously, tricked into working two or three jobs because the company realises they’re capable, and it saves them another salary or two.

It’s a tragic tale I’ve witnessed over and again, and had to break free from myself in order to create success on my own terms as a freelance writer.

No more big corporations and suffocating offices for me!

But career expectations are not the only things foisted on us as women. We are told to want certain things in life; the good, dependable man, marriage, children. But what if we want passion and fireworks? What if we crave freedom and independence and aren’t particularly keen on the notion that having a long term relationship requires legal binding yourself to a person? And what if we don’t actually want children?

Gasp.
